LACMA SERIES: THROUGH THE MIC

Asmembers of LACMA’s Muse program, Jamie and I have gained access to presale tickets and exclusive events.  LACMA is starting a concert series that explores contemporary hip hop and Los Angeles-based artists, co-curated by none other than artist, Murs.  Taking place on the third Thursday of every month, May through October 2012, the first in the series will feature a reunion of 3MG — Murs, Eligh, and Scarub.

Conor Harrington

We’ve been huge fans of Irish artist, Conor Harrington, for some time now and have been eagerly awaiting the release of a new print. Conor’s recent exhibition, Dead Meat, at London-based Lazarides Gallery boasts a small but impressive collection of paintings that are at once a skillful amalgamation of classical and street art techniques.

A Third Valentine’s and Anniversary

It is so easy to get caught up in the trivial matters and concerns of every day life, but it is far more important to stay grounded and remain thankful.  Jamie and I have gone through a rough couple of weeks, fatigued from work and recent heartaches, and have not put much time or effort into spending special time with one another.  How nice it was to go on an impromptu date for sushi and a movie (none other than the re-release of Star Wars in 3D, of course)!  As if a fun night out of our apartment wasn’t enough, Jamie surprised me with red tulips, delivered to my office the next day.  I’m so lucky to have such an amazing friend, partner, and husband (though I’m still getting used to the new title).  With him, I’m continually inspired.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

February 12, 2012

In need of a laid back family outing, we decided to head up the 405 to the Getty Center. We could not have chosen a better day. The weather was perfect, and as usual, great art was on display including Bruce Nauman’s “Four Corner Piece.”

With as busy as life sometimes becomes, it’s easy to forget that we live in such a culturally rich area. All it takes is getting out and paying a few bucks for parking to create lasting memories.

See the rest of the set here.

Synthetic’s “Disposable” App

From the creators of Hipstamatic, comes yet another lo-fi photography app… But this one introduces a couple of elements that I had never seen before. First, you must finish shooting all 24 exposures before you are able to see the final shots. Secondly, it introduces a social aspect. After choosing a camera, the app allows you to invite other Disposable users to take pictures on your camera. Once the roll is finished, you can both review the shots and save them all to your iPhone’s camera roll, or share them through good old fashioned e-mail.

After finishing my first roll, I recalled the anticipation I would feel when waiting for photos to get developed. Secondly, I remembered how many “reject” photos would come out of those rolls.

Take this app out for a test drive. It’s free unless you decide to get fancy and buy different cameras (which you will after your first roll).

Cookie Adventure: Domo Kun TKOs

Today marks our second cookie adventure in the geek category.  Having come across this amazing tutorial while researching cookie ideas, we knew right away that we had to try this ourselves.  The result: a delicious balance of salty and sweet flavors, all in an adorable Domo sandwich-cookie form.

And now, for a little more fun:

“Social Aesthetic”

Interesting article in which Douglas Brundage discusses the trending shift in social media from data-heavy arenas towards highly visual alternatives.  Applications such as Tumblr and Instagram offer a platform by which “Instabloggers” can allocate visually driven content across networks, thereby creating a realm in which the users’ inner artist remains engaged.

The buffet.

Chicken and waffles.

Creme brule and butterscotch pudding. Couldn’t decide on one, so yeah…

Time for an afternoon nap.
